Bay Cities Displays Recognized in Design Competitions

November 14, 2011 – Los Angeles, CA-Bay Cities returned to Southern California with a number of awards from various design competitions this past month. Point of Purchase Advertising International (POPAI) pronounced the winners of the 2011 San Francisco POP Show that included seven displays manufactured by Bay Cities. Awards included a 1st place, 2nd place and five 3rd place finishes for displays representing Govino, Neuma, Alterna, Popcornopolis, Boost Mobile and Guthy Renker.

The 64th annual SF POP Show, sponsored by POPAI, was held at the UCSF Mission Bay Conference Center, and distinguishes the top point-of-purchase displays and retail packaging innovations on the West coast. Over 225 entries, in 23 categories were submitted including pieces representing clients such as Sony, Universal Pictures, Nintendo, Warner Brothers, Sephora and Disney. They were judged on quality, creativity, innovation, perceived ability to increase sales and make products enticing and memorable to consumers. The panel of judges was comprised of producers, brand marketers and retailers.

The same week, Bay Cities attended the Association of Independent Corrugated Converters (AICC) Independent Packaging Design Competition which took place in Salt Lake City, Utah. There were over 155 entries featured from 31 various companies that participated in the corrugated, folding carton and rigid box category of which Bay Cities brought home additional 1st and 2nd place finishes along with one honorable mention. Guthy Renker’s Sheercover Baypak display took top honors in the Use of Corrugated Outside of Packaging and Displays category along with Bay Cities Fong Chair which took 2nd in the Best Corrugated Self Promotion category. The honorable Mention went to Boost Mobile’s Droid display under the Counter, Shelf, Power Wing and PDQ category.

Earlier this month, in Chicago, Bay Cities received the Bronze Award for a similar Boost Mobile Droid wall display at the Shopper Market Expo’s Design of Times Competition. Entries were judged in regards to the eight retail channels of consumer electronic stores, convenience stores, drug stores, home centers/hardware stores, mass merchants, specialty stores, sporting goods stores and supermarket/grocery stores. Winners were chosen based on performance in all eight channels.
