Bay Cities COVID-19 Updates

July 20, 2020

As a next step to keep all our employees safe while at work, we purchased a portable UV sanitizer. The unit arrived this week. The UV sanitizer kills pathogens, such as viruses and bacteria, by damaging the cell’s DNA resulting in the cell’s loss of ability to properly function and replicate. Within seconds of exposure pathogens should be killed. The machine has a 99.99% effectiveness in killing COVID-19.

We decided to go with this machine to diminish our chemical use on-site. It helps to remove corrosion from the disinfecting equation when using household chemicals at our machine centers.

To effectively use the UV sanitizer, the UV light must be shone upon the surface at 8” to 12” away and moved directionally at a speed of 1” per second. Although UV light is effective against pathogens, it can also cause damage human skin cells and eyes. As such it is imperative to wear UV blocking PPE when operating this machine. The appropriate PPE includes the 99.9% UV resistant face shield, coveralls and gloves made of densely woven fabric, and steel toe shoes. The team is currently undergoing extensive training regarding UV safety.

Swab tests will be conducted this upcoming week. Upon satisfactory results, we are planning to run the unit 2 times / day at our machine center hotspots. This will be in addition to our onsite sanitizing attendant, who is going around and disinfects our facilities.

We have also installed dividers at our lunch tables. While eating lunch 6 foot apart, dividers will be adding an extra layer of protection. People will still be able to see each other and safely interact.

Be safe. Wash your hands and wear your mask.

Keep it separated.
